FOI request detail

Location of Cycle Racks on A 316, Lower Richmond Road

Request ID: FOI-1720-2021
Date published: 08 December 2020

You asked

You have installed six or more cycle racks on the pavement of the North side of the A 316 between North Road and Sandycombe Road. There is no logic to this. No one stops here other than to catch a bus. No one on a cycle stops here. Scattering such obstructions serves no purpose and is expensive. Please can you explain the rationale?

We answered

TfL Ref 1720-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30 November 2020 asking for information about the Location of Cycle Racks on A 316, Lower Richmond Road.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

As part of the Mayors Healthy Streets plan and Transport Strategy we have been challenged to increase cycle parking at locations across London to encourage a more active lifestyle. One of the issues raised was people wanted to cycle locally however there was very little infrastructure for people to park their cycles.

This location was identified due to its proximity to various local businesses as well as future demand for cycling in the area. North Sheen station is within the vicinity of the cycle parking facility, as well as two retail superstores.

Further information on the Strategy plan outlined by the Mayor’s office can be found in the following Cycle Parking Implementation Plan on our website:  http://content.tfl.gov.uk/cycle-parking-implementation-plan.pdf

If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
