Freedom of Information request

Request ID: FOI-1711-2324
Date published: 13 September 2023

You asked

Dear TfL, I'm writing to you today to follow up this Freedom of Information request. I submitted a Freedom of Information request to Network Rail, asking them about these DMI's and why they are not working. They stated that MTR are responsible for the maintenance of the DMI's, and that Network Rail only own the assets. Therefore I would like to ask for the following information: Why have MTR never switched these "new" DMI's on? If these DMI's were ever switched on and commissioned, please let me know when they stopped working, and the reason why they were not fixed. Please treat this as a request to have these DMi's repaired/replaced. You cannot see the DMI's at the other end of the station from this end of the station at all. I am both surprised and disappointed that this issue hasn't been dealt with already. I look forward to your reply. Thanks,

TfL Ref: 1711-2324

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16 August 2023 asking for information about Dot Matrix Indicators (DMIs) at Langley Station, following you previous request, TfL Ref: 1104-2324.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act / and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

Why have MTR never switched these "new" DMI's on?

If these DMI's were ever switched on and commissioned, please let me know when they stopped working, and the reason why they were not fixed.

Please treat this as a request to have these DMi's repaired/replaced. You cannot see the DMI's at the other end of the station from this end of the station at all. I am both surprised and disappointed that this issue hasn't been dealt with already.

We can advise that the DMI screens in question have never worked because they are faulty. They are not connected to the Customer Information system and therefore cannot be switched on.

Our concessionaire, MTR, which operates and manages the Elizabeth line trains on TfL’s behalf, do not own the DMI screens – Network Rail are responsible for replacing them and are seeking funding to do so.

If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
