Our ref: FOI-1711-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27 November 2020 asking for information about step free access.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you requested. You asked:

On platform 5 at Waterloo a new small ramp has been put on the platform 5. This is where the wheelchair access is for customers alighting at Bond St. How much this cost and why is this now necessary?

London Underground has a legal obligation, in accordance with the Railway Vehicle Accessibility Regulations (RVAR) 1998/2010, to meet defined levels of accessibility. These obligations involve providing step free access from the platform to train. Due to existing height difference between the platform and the height of train to allow step free access from the Platform to the Train, this is where the requirement for the newly installed ramps came from. The reason for the platform hump is to provide a level platform for boarding on and alighting adjacent from trains at designated train door positions, at any station identified as Step Free.

The cost for the installation of this ramp at Waterloo Platform 5 is £1900.
