Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 31 October 2021 asking for information about PCN(s) Vehicles exceeding max gross weight indicated.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. We have introduced a restriction for vehicles travelling through Rotherhithe Tunnel. Vehicles more than 2 meters (6'6") high, 2 meters (6'6") wide or goods vehicles weighing more than 2 tonnes (gross vehicle weight) are not safe to travel through the tunnel. Driver’s that do not comply could receive a penalty. The tunnel was built in 1908 and was not designed to cope with modern levels of traffic. These restrictions are in place to help ensure that road users can continue to use the tunnel safely while we work on plans for the tunnel's future. The table below details the number of penalties issued on the requested dates.
