Thank you for your email received by us on 27 September 2017 asking for information about colour vision assessments for London Underground staff.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

copies of the risk assessments conducted in the process of adopting CAD screening as an acceptable means of colour vision assessment for London Underground Train Operators/drivers

Attached is the study undertaken for Computer Aided Design (CAD), which formed the main part of the risk assessment. Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) we are not at liberty to disclose some personal information, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the DPA, specifically the first principle of the DPA which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions of Schedule 2 of the Data Protection Act which would make the processing ‘fair’.

Whilst subsequent meetings took place, unfortunately the records of these meetings that discussed the report and agreed to implement it are no longer held.

and the number of times secondary screening using CAD has been used in the past 12 months, September 2016 - September 2017.

I can advise that Computer Aided Design (CAD) screening has been used twice on train operations as a secondary measure in the last twelve months.
