I’m seeking information about civil injunctions your organisation has sought and been granted to restrict “protest activities”, which I would like you to interpret as including but not limited to the following activities: encampments, chanting, gatherings and demonstrations, written or verbal comments and flyering.
1. A list of all civil injunctions restricting protest applied and granted to your public body since 2018. For each injunction listed, please provide:
a. A copy of the court judgment
b. A copy of any maps detailing the geographic where the injunction applies
If all injunctions are already in the public domain, please provide hyperlinks to where I can locate them.
2. Please specify the total amount of legal costs incurred by your public body to date in regard to each injunction listed in Q1, including any costs passed onto the protesters named in the injunction. Please break this figure down by the name of each legal firm/lawyer to which the cost are owed
3. For each injunction listed in response to Q1, please specify the total amount contributed towards legal costs by other organisations or individuals. Please break the total figure down by the name of the organisation or individual and the amount of their contribution.
4. For each injunction listed in Q1, please specify the total amount of legal costs that have been passed on to protesters named in the judgment. Please break this figure down by the number of protesters ordered to pay costs.
5. For each injunction listed in Q1, please specify the total amount of money in legal costs that has been recouped from protesters named in the judgment. Please break this figure down by the total number of protesters from which your organisation has recouped its costs.

Our Ref: FOI-1660-2425 Thank you for your request received on 22 August 2024 asking for information about civil injunctions. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require. A list of all civil injunctions restricting protest applied and granted to your public body since 2018. For each injunction listed, please provide: A copy of the court judgment A copy of any maps detailing the geographic where the injunction applies If all injunctions are already in the public domain, please provide hyperlinks to where I can locate them. We are doing all we can to ensure that London’s road network operates safely and efficiently and that vital emergency service vehicles - such as ambulances and fire engines - are able to move freely through the city. TfL has applied for and been granted injunctions in relation to obstruction on the TfL Road Network by Insulate Britain and Just Stop Oil. The injunctions are not intended to prohibit lawful protest. External legal spend incurred to date in the Insulate Britain case is £152,310 and £146,150 for the Just Stop Oil case. These figures exclude VAT. For each injunction listed in response to Q1, please specify the total amount contributed towards legal costs by other organisations or individuals. Please break the total figure down by the name of the organisation or individual and the amount of their contribution. TfL has received no such contributions. For each injunction listed in Q1, please specify the total amount of legal costs that have been passed on to protesters named in the judgment. TfL was granted costs orders in both the IB and JSO proceedings but the orders are currently subject to a review by the Court and the outcome is awaited.
