We answered

Our ref: FOI-1659-1718/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27 September 2017 asking for information about unstaffed tube stations.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

TfL is committed to staffing all stations while train services are running as part of its customer service offering, including during Night Tube services. There may be times during the day staff are not visible because they are either on a meal break, travelling between stations or undertaking station inspections.

Please see below details of instances of non-Section 12 stations being unstaffed during the period 1 July 2017 to 30 September 2017.

There were no occasions when a station was left unstaffed for a whole day.

Please note that in order to provide this information a manual check of each tube lines service review needs to be carried out. To provide you with 12 or 6 months data would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 set by the Freedom of Information (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004. (Under section 12 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to comply with requests if we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the appropriate limit). We have therefore provided you with 3 months records as you suggested.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
