FOI request detail

Maps showing where buses delayed

Request ID: FOI-1634-2021
Date published: 02 December 2020

You asked

Please could you disclose maps (or other spatial data) showing where buses are delayed. If available it would be useful to see this for last year (e.g. before COVID) as well as more recent data for this year. The bus performance data on your website currently only shows overall route performance, so is not useful to helping communities to campaign for their local council to consider parking and other traffic orders to address locations with persistent bus delays and low average speeds. My focus is the borough of Southwark but hopefully it's possible to share info London wide. Thanks in advance

TfL Ref: FOI-1634-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 17th November 2020 asking for information about delays to buses.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Please could you disclose maps (or other spatial data) showing where buses are delayed. If available it would be useful to see this for last year (e.g. before COVID) as well as more recent data for this year. The bus performance data on your website currently only shows overall route performance, so is not useful to helping communities to campaign for their local council to consider parking and other traffic orders to address locations with persistent bus delays and low average speeds. My focus is the borough of Southwark but hopefully it's possible to share info London wide.”

I attach two maps showing delays in the Southwark area, comparing reporting periods 7 and 8 of 2020 with the same periods in 2019. The maps highlight the stop-to-stop links in Southwark where the average bus journey times in each period this year were more than 30 secs per km different to those in the same period last year (green = better, red = worse). The averages are taken across the 4 weeks in each period, Mon-Fri only, for journey times 7am-7pm, and across the bus routes using that link.

Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
