Thank you for your  request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16 September 2018 asking for information about Night Tube Train Operators.

Your request has been processed in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you requested. You asked:

Please can you provide me with the following information in relation to London Underground Tube Operator recruitment:

1)How many internal candidates are currently on the waiting list for Night Tube Train Operator?

123 internal candidates are currently on the waiting list for Night Tube Train Operator roles. This number will increase as candidates are still going coming through the recruitment process.

2) How long has the person at the top of the internal candidate waiting list been on the waiting list?

The person at the top of the internal candidate waiting list has been doing so for approximately 6-8 weeks.

3) How many external candidates are currently on the waiting list for Night Tube Train Operator?

There are around 87 external candidates currently on the waiting list for Night Tube Train Operator roles.

4) How long has the person at the top of the external candidate waiting list been on the waiting list?

The person at the top of the external candidate waiting list has been doing so for approximately 9 months.

5) How many newly trained Night Tube Train Operators were there in 2017?

There were 90 newly trained Night Tube Train Operators in 2017.

6) How many newly trained Night Tube Train Operators have there been to date in 2018? And how many are there anticipated to be by year end?

There have been 137 new Night Tube Train Operators to date this year. We do not know how many are anticipated by the end of the year.

These figures are taken only from those going into the Grade TO23 (Night Tube Train Operator), any going into the standard grade of TO21 (Train Operator) are not included, despite the fact they may be working night shifts at weekends. The numbers are for all those who changed grade to TO23 during the timeframes specified. This usually denotes completion of training as previous grades are kept during the training period , or Trainee Operator grades are assigned.
