Busses 7th year midterm refurbishment

You asked
From an earlier complaint I receive a very useful piece of information – ‘Each bus has a midterm refurbishment (in its 7th year) where seat coverings and paddings are renewed’.
I therefore have some further questions:
1) What are the other items involved in this 7th year midterm refurbishment?
2) My son spotted two buses WVL75 and WVL96 on route 87 with their seats staying the same since year 2002. Is that true and why?
3) Is this piece of information disclosed to the members of public in any documents? Where can I find that? "
We answered
Dear
TfL Ref: FOI-1590-1819
Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 September 2018, asking for information about our bus refurbishment program.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:
- What are the other items involved in this 7th year midterm refurbishment?
The refurbishment program consist of a comprehensive survey of both the bus interior and exterior to report on all items, systems, components serviceability standards and to assess what needs either repairing or replacing for the bus to be used safely, comfortably and reliably for the next 7 years. These items include exterior body panels, windows, flooring, wheelchair bay symbol tile, hand poles, seating, interior panels, legal lettering, signage, emission standards and heating/cooling systems.
- My son spotted two buses WVL75 and WVL96 on route 87 with their seats staying the same since year 2002. Is that true and why?
The two buses in question are 14 years old and have reached the end of their operational life in London and are due to be removed from service and replaced with newer buses in the near future.
3) Is this piece of information disclosed to the members of public in any documents? Where can I find that?
The bus refurbishment specification document is not published within the public domain.
