Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 21st October 2021 asking for information about Low Emission Zone warning letters.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“How many warning letters were sent to people who inadvertently drove into or out of the Low Emission Zone in 2019 and 2020.”
I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
TfL did not run any Warning Notice campaigns for LEZ in 2019. For 2020, we only had a Warning Notice campaign in place for a short period in May 2020 following the reinstatement of Road User Charging schemes that had been suspended during the first Covid lockdown. During May 2020, we issued 149 Warning Notices for LEZ.
If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
