Inquiry Regarding the Removal of the Camberwell Kabinett
Request ID: FOI-1571-2425 Date published: 22 August 2024
You asked
I am writing to inquire about the recent removal of the Camberwell Kabinett, a space that had been creatively repurposed and utilized after being abandoned for over a decade. Given its long-standing presence, I am curious to understand the reasons behind its removal. Specifically, I would like to know if the removal was part of a pre-scheduled plan or if it was due to regulations against the activation and unofficial use of abandoned spaces.
Your insights on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13 August 2024 asking for information about the removal of the Camberwell Kabinett.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.
TfL did receive a request to remove the kiosk following reports from councillors and a local MP that it was attracting anti-social behaviour. When the site was inspected on 18/08/2024 it was confirmed that the kiosk had already been removed.
It may have been removed by LB Southwark as they are the Highway Authority on Camberwell Road, and we have not been able to find any record of this being removed by TfL.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
