Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30th September 2022 asking for information about noise on the Victoria line. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“Please provide (1) results if independent survey of levels of noise exposure to passengers using the Victoria Line broken down by different times of year; (2) numbers of resident noise complaints in Blackhorse Road/Walthamstow Central area in past 2 years”.
I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
In answer to Question 1, please see the table below. The measurements were taken on return journeys of the entire line from Brixton to Walthamstow Central and back to Brixton.

Note that a rail grinding program is to begin shortly which should help reduce the noise.
In answer to Question 2, TfL has received 18 new complaints from residents about noise from the Victoria line between Blackhorse Road and Walthamstow Central in the last two years. This does not include any ongoing complaints from residents initially received further back than 2 years ago.
