You asked

F/on from FOI-0794 Dear Graham, thank you for getting back to me. I can see that from what you understood, it would be too much work to ask. What I want to know it is much more simpler than I might have conveyed. What I want to know is how many people went through redeployment?( Which you have provided me) How many of those were given an alternative position without going through the application process?( Excluding the position of Csa1 and Csa2 as they are automatic) If possible, why? How many were successful through applying for jobs? I hope this helps.

Our ref: FOI-1526-2425/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 August 2024 asking for information about staff roles.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.

Firstly, the number previously provided (1,097) is not the number of staff referred to Redeployment. This number was actually employees who had any restrictions recorded, as per your original request. Those could have been temporary or long term and there is no way of linking those cases to Redeployment referrals.

We are only able to report on Redeployment cases from 2018. From 2018 – to present date – there were 344 cases of medical redeployment where Redeployment time has ended and there is reason recorded:

Medical Termination169

SAE = Suitable Alternative Employment.

In response to the specific questions you have raised:

What I want to know is how many people went through redeployment?( Which you have provided me)
344 employees were referred under medical redeployment (between 2018 and present day), not the number previously supplied, this was medical restrictions not referrals to redeployment.

How many of those were given an alternative position without going through the application process?( Excluding the position of Csa1 and Csa2 as they are automatic)
There is no automatic placement in to a new role from medical redeployment without an assessment process to ensure that the minimum benchmark for the role is achieved.  The skills matching team (part of Redeployment)  position redeployees directly with hiring managers (using their CV and covering letters) in order to reach a decision on whether the role may be suitable in line with their skills, knowledge and experience and next steps. At that point if there is a potential fit with the majority of the essential criteria it will be decided whether the full assessment process must be undertaken or whether there are any elements that can be bypassed/fast tracked.  65 people secured SAE (new roles) during this period and a further 20 were deployed in the CSA (see below)

If possible, why?
There are 20 redeployments to the role of CSA under medical redeployment, it is highly likely that these employees will have had to undertake the CSA assessment if they were not already in a Stations role and as you state above if they are fit to undertake a CSA role and are already in an operational role the process of Redeployment can happen automatically through the Stations/Operational Resourcing Team and not be referred to Redeployment.

How many were successful through applying for jobs?
85 employees secured a new role (different from their substantive role) via the assistance in applying or being directly positioned for a role by the Redeployment Team.  Medical redeployees must actively looking at vacancies which go live every day and if they wish to apply for a role directly they will be supported and assisted by their Redeployment Specialist.  If the role is considered a promotion their priority status will not allow them any priority in the process but they will have the benefit of application and interview support and practice from the team.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
