Thank you for your request which we received on 10 August 2023, asking for the total cost that TfL had to pay for the ULEZ judicial review.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
TfL and the Mayor instructed external solicitors and barristers to act for them in defending the ULEZ judicial review proceedings. The external costs incurred in doing so were £206,000. However further to the Court’s Order, the Claimants are required to pay TfL and the Mayor’s external costs together with an allowance for internal legal resources. The final amount of these costs has not yet been determined but the claimants have already reimbursed TfL for an amount above the external costs incurred.
