TfL Ref 1507-2021
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 3 November 2020 asking for information about standard diversion routes for buses on routes 254,253, 242, 38, D8, 262, 473 and 58.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested as we don’t use ‘standard’ diversions as such and each diversion is essentially bespoke to the given situation at the time.
To explain further, an incident could potentially be of infinite variety and could happen on any part of the network therefore it would be very difficult to capture every diversion variation in advance.
Diversions are generally undertaken when there are emergency incidents, works or events on the network. Emergency incidents, by their nature do not happen with prior knowledge and as such, are subject to reactionary ad-hoc diversions. Whilst planned works and events should happen with prior knowledge this is not always the case. We may not always be advised of the works and some events can be spontaneous and mobile (such as demonstrations). So again reactionary ad-hoc diversions would be implemented. Where we do have prior knowledge of works or events taking place, a diversion can be worked out in advance, however, these can still be changed “on the day”. Finally, even with pre-planned annual events, there can be variations depending on anything else that may be happening on the network nearby that may need to be taken into consideration.
In the first instance, bus drivers should take their instructions on diversions to follow from their operators. Notices of Events (NOE’s) may also be posted by operators in bus garages which give details of potential planned diversions for bus drivers to review.
If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
