Freedom of information request- ULEZ charges from 2025
Request ID: FOI-1503-2122 Date published: 02 November 2021
You asked
Hello
I request a freedom of information in regards to ULEZ for residents living within the zone. My request is for all information - legislation which will be implemented from 2025 and how this will affect those living, directly. Within the ULEZ zone. I understand the ULEZ is expanded from Oct 2021 and only cars meeting the Euro 4 (Petrol) Euro 6 (Diesel) are exempted from paying the ULEZ charge. What is not clear is if residents living in the newly expanded ULEZ zone will be able to carry on using their Euro 4 petrol or Euro 6 diesel after 2025? Again, my request is not to do with the current expanded ULEZ area from October 2021. I am referring to information for residents living within the ULEZ zone, on and after 2025.
I fully understand that I have nothing to worry until 2025. My request for the information is to do with the ULEZ plans on and after 2025.
Many thanks,

We can advise that there are currently no plans for any further changes to the Ultra Low Emission Zone following its expansion to cover the area within the North and South Circular Roads on 25 October 2021.
The Mayor’s Transport Strategy sets out the Mayor’s policies and proposals to shape transport in London to 2040. It outlines that the Mayor through TfL will keep existing and planned road user charging schemes, including the Congestion Charge, Low Emission Zone, ULEZ and the Silvertown Tunnel schemes, under review to ensure they prove effective in furthering or delivering the policies and proposals of the Strategy. Any changes to these schemes, including tightening the standards for the ULEZ, would need to be fully consulted on before they are put into practice. The Mayor’s Transport Strategy is available via the following link to the GLA website: https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/mayors-transport-strategy-2018.pdf
In the London Environment Strategy, the Mayor has also committed to developing a Zero Emission Zone for some parts of central London by 2025, and some of the London boroughs are also developing similar ideas. As with any changes to existing schemes, any new scheme would need to be fully consulted on. The London Environment Strategy can be viewed here: https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/london_environment_strategy_0.pdf
