North-South Cycle Superhighway Consultation

You asked

The question I am asking is around the 55/243 Eastbound bus stop on Clerkenwell Road, to the West of Farringdon Road. Specifically, following my correspondence with Nina, I want to understand: • What options were considered? What was the relative strength and weakness of these options? • Why can the bus stop not be retained in it's original position outside the commercial premises of the ballet school? Further, I would like: • Confirmatory evidence that this was considered following my emails and meetings with Nina Patel? • Was an option considered to retain the bus stop in it's original position? If so, why was this not chosen? • Was an option considered to move the bus stop West? If so, why was this not chosen? I would also point out that there is already a bus stop on the opposite side of the road there.

Our Ref:          FOI-1500-1819

Thank you for your request received on 3 September 2018 asking for information about 55/243 Eastbound bus stop on Clerkenwell Road.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

What options were considered? What was the relative strength and weakness of these options?
Why can the bus stop not be retained in it's original position outside the commercial premises of the ballet school?

These questions have previously been responded to in the e-mail sent to you from Nina Patel dated 19 January 2018 and our response to FOI-4312-1718 dated 27 March 2018.

Confirmatory evidence that this was considered following my emails and meetings with Nina Patel?
Was an option considered to retain the bus stop in it's original position? If so, why was this not chosen?

Yes, this was considered and assessed as detailed in the e-mail from Nina Patel dated 19 January 2018.

Was an option considered to move the bus stop West? If so, why was this not chosen? I would also point out that there is already a bus stop on the opposite side of the road there.

As stated in our response to FOI-4312-1718 dated 27 March 2018, alternative options for the location of the bus stop included retaining it in it’s current position, removing the bus stop altogether, relocating it to alternative positions and relocating other bus stops.

We have considered whether it was possible to relocate the bus stop further west than proposed, however turning movement analysis showed that vehicles exiting right from Saffron Hill would overlap with the bus stop, requiring vehicles to move into the opposing lane to avoid a stopped bus. It was also considered whether it would be possible to shorten the bus cage in order to move the front of the bus cage further west, however the cage was already at the minimum width.
