Our ref: FOI-1486-2122/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 October 2021 asking for information about Night Tube safety.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.
Our transport network is a safe, low crime network - millions of passengers travel on our network with very few of them ever experiencing or witnessing crime. Everyone has the right to work or travel without fear of crime or intimidation and if anyone witnesses or is victim to any crime they should report it immediately. We work closely with our police partners funding more than 2,500 officers across the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), British Transport Police (BTP) and the City of London Police (CoLP). BTP officers carry out patrols during both day and night Tube services to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, and make customers feel safer when travelling in London.
Since its introduction, how many crimes have been reported by Customers on each NT line, during NT hours. I'd like to know the breakdown by crime category (theft, sexual assault, physical assault, violent attack, mugging, other). Please see the table below, showing crimes reported on night services, noting that night tubes lines did not open at the same time, so figures cannot be compared directly to each other. :

Recorded offence information is extracted from British Transport Police (BTP) crime systems with offences extracted which are committed between the hours of 00:30 to 05:30 Saturday and Sundays. The information represents crimes recorded between the first weekend of service (20/21 August 2016) and last weekend of service pre-pandemic (14/15 March 2020). Please also be aware that the figures provided here may not be the same provided directly by the BTP, as their data is taken from a live system, and crime data may be updated following further enquiries. I'd also like to know how many crime and safety incidents were reported by Operational Staff: Train Operators and Station Staff, since NT began until its suspension. Please list these by type and severity per Line.
The tables below provide figures showing incidents of assaults on staff which were recorded by staff via electronic Incident Report Form tables (eIRF) The tables are by station ownership i.e. the District line does not run a service on Night Tube. Gloucester Road is owned by the District line but the Piccadilly line runs through and incidents shown as ownership for the District line. Similarly the Central and Victoria lines serve Oxford Circus but ownership is by the Bakerloo line.
Incidents reported to the BTP may vary from the figures shown below. If you require this information, please contact the British Transport Police. You may submit a Freedom of information request to them via their website here:
