You asked

How many times during the week is the District line destination changed during the journey? I'm specifically interested in the Richmond Service but I would also like the breakdown by all District line destinations as well. I've noticed that when I get on the tube at Bank westwards on the Richmond service, the destination changes to Ealing Broadway part way through the journey. This happens even when there are no signal failures. You're massively inconveniencing people living on the Richmond line. And no doubt other lines. And for what ? what is your actual reasoning? Please provide the stats of changed destinations for this year so far per week, for each district line service and answer my last question as well. We need answers to this abominable service.

Thank you for your request which we received on 6 August 2024, asking for information about district line changes of destinations.

 

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You specifically asked:

The Richmond branch, which is owned and operated by Network Rail, has suffered a number of significant asset failures in recent weeks. Network Rail are working hard to improve the situation on the Richmond branch and we hope to see an improvement in performance in the coming weeks/months.

 

We aim to avoid diversions wherever possible but there are a number of reasons why this might be required, including incidents, rolling stock requirements (there is a major maintenance depot at Ealing Common), Train Operator driving hours issues, or cancellations (and subsequent diversions) to balance the service across the whole line.

 

Please provide the stats of changed destinations for this year so far per week, for each district line service and answer my last question as well. 

 

We do not count changes of destinations by trains. Instead, we report on Service Operated (percentage of actual number of trips vs. scheduled number of trips) as measured at five different points on each end of the line. 

 

Please find the data attached. It gives a good indication of how many trains made it to the station at each end of the line versus what was scheduled.
