Thank you for your request received on 12 October 2021 asking for information about the total benefits package of London Underground drivers.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked for:

1) In the tax year April 06 2020 to April 05 2021 what was the greatest total benefit package received by a single Tube train driver?

By 'total benefit package' I seek to discover the total value of the following:

i) Salary
ii) Overtime
iii) Ancilliary benefits such as medical/life cover and pension contribution.
iv) Any other benefit with a monetary value.

The greatest total benefit package received by a single Tube Train Operator was £81,434.05. This employee had basic salary payments of £58,427.30, employer pension contributions of £13,861.81, overtime payments of £9.93, and a Season Ticket Reimbursement of £9,135.01. Season ticket reimbursements are a standard allowance type and are taxable.

2) How many tube drivers received total benefit packages:

i) In the range £80,000- £89,999
ii) In the range £90,000 - £99,999
iii) In the range £100,000 - £109,999
iv) In the range £110,000 - £119,999
v) In the range £120,000 - £129,999
vi) ...and so on in ranges of £10,000 until the highest single benefits package is reached and included in a range.

There were a total of ten Tube Train Operators whose total remuneration was over £80k. In addition to the person listed above, the remaining nine people left service before their annual leave entitlement had been taken so this was reimbursed once their service ended. There were no other Tube Train Operators earning over £80k.
