Thank you for your request which we received on 5 August 2024, asking for information about TfL’s ill health pension.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:
- How many employees applied for an Ill Health Pension between 1st January 2021 and 31st December 2023?
220 applications were reported between 01/01/2021 and 31/12/2023.
- Of those employees, how many were granted an Ill Health Pension and how many were refused one under the scheme rules?
Approved - 134.
Declined - 86.
- If there were any appeals against refusal, how many were there, and how many were successful?
There were no appeals in the period requested. This may be because when applications are declined it is usually for insufficient evidence, which they either accept or provide more evidence that may lead to their later approval.
