TfL Ref: FOI-1449-2425
Thank you for your request which we received on 4 August 2024.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:
Could you please inform me of the date on which Transport for London (TfL) first licensed the Vito taxi?
Additionally, prior to the licensing of the Vito taxi, could you provide the length allocated to each taxi when measuring cab ranks?
Furthermore, could you also specify the length allocated to taxis when measuring cab ranks after the Vito taxi was licensed?
The Mercedes-Benz Vito taxi was first licensed for use as a taxi in London in June 2008.
There was no change to our taxi rank dimensions owing to the licensing of this vehicle.
When designing a taxi rank, a length of 5,000mm per taxi is standard, however, the size, layout and design of the taxi rank will depend upon several factors, as outlined in our published ‘Streetscape Guidance’.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
