Request ID: FOI-1440-2324 Date published: 21 August 2023
You asked
Dear TFL,
I would like to make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act.
Specifically, I would like to request information about maintenance of traffic lights for vehicles travelling NORTHBOUND on A41 Watford Way at its junction with Aerodrome Road, nearest postcode NW4 4SZ.
In 2020 and 2021 a fault was reported via your website about a malfunctioning red traffic light. Was this red light ever fixed, and if so when? There is no indication on your website that it was ever fixed (see attachment). (Fixed/resolved issues are reported on your website next to the original report of the problem by the public.)
I would also like to request maintenance records & reports for this particular set of traffic lights, and any lamp repairs or replacements, specifically that of the red light on the northbound carriageway of A41 Watford Way.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Please find attached the maintenance records and reports for traffic signals with reference 03/000092 – A41 Watford Way / Greyhound Hill / Aerodrome Road. The spreadsheet shows all lamp maintenance activities at this site for the period 01 January 2020 to 31 December 2021.
Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under Data Protection legislation some personal data has been removed, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.
The site drawing below shows the n/bound direction as requested for poles numbered 4,5 6 & 7.
During this period the site had two annual lamp changes and cleansing activities carried out where all lamps were replaced (highlighted in green) on 19 February 2020 and 17 February 2021.
The site also had two annual functional checks (Periodic Inspection) which involves checking that all lamps / signals are working correctly (highlighted in blue) on 04 March 2020 and 16 February 2021. The remainder of the entries are faults logged on the TfL system and highlighted in regular text is where maintenance has been carried out on the northbound signals.
Highlighted in yellow is a fault entry which appears to correspond with the Streetcare screenshot provided below. The time of the fault entry is eight minutes after the Streetcare entry on 25 August 2021, it mentions streetcare and the initial text of the fault report is identical to the screenshot below. The entry for the repair indicates the fault was rectified very early (00:15) on 26-August-2021. We will be investigating why there was no indication on Streetcare to show that the fault had been corrected.
