You asked

I'm currently putting together a CLOCS training presentation to allow me to train all of our Site Logistics Operatives and I'm looking for the numbers of cyclist and pedestrian injured and killed by HGVs in London in 2018 to allow me to give an indication of how CLOCS is having an effect. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Our ref: FOI-1412-1920/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 August 2019 asking for the numbers of cyclist and pedestrian injured and killed by HGVs in London in 2018.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

It is not clear from this request what is meant by HGV.  In STATS19 terms an HGV is a goods vehicle of 7.5T mgw and over, however the Freight Team generally uses the term HGV to indicate goods vehicles over 3.5T mgw (in ACCSTATS terms this includes both medium and heavy goods vehicles). We have assumed that you mean over 3.5T for this data.

Some large vehicles such as refuse trucks, cement lorries, skip lorries are not classed as goods vehicles but come under a general ‘Other Motor Vehicle’ category – we tend to know what these vehicles are in the case of fatal collisions, but not for other severities so we have not been able to include these in the data provided.

The table below shows pedestrian and pedal cyclist casualties injured in collisions that involved a goods vehicle over 3.5T in Greater London in 2018.  Please note that the pedestrian or cyclist may not have been in direct conflict with the goods vehicle but they were injured in a collision that involved a vehicle over 3.5T.

If you would prefer to have the data just for goods vehicles of 7.5T and over please let me know.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
