You asked

I would like to request a downloadable copy of all the announcements used on your services. Including, but not limited to: London Overground, London Underground, IBus, TFL-Rail/CrossRail and any other announcement files you can provide. I'd also like to request a list of places on the network where the whistle should be used by the driver. Clarification 08/10/2021: the specific positions of whistle boards on the London Underground. Like, for example, at the entrances of tunnels or at junctions.

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1404-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 29th September 2021 asking for recordings of announcements from various TfL services, as well as information on the use of whistles by drivers.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. In terms of the announcements, your email account has now been added to the permissions list to access the audio recordings and you should now have an email with a link enabling you to access the folder (please check your spam folder if this is not visible).

Upon opening the link you will be asked to verify your account which will generate a code to be send to your email address which is only valid for 15 minutes (you may need to check your spam folder). Once that code is entered you will have access to the relevant files which can then be downloaded. Should you encounter any difficulty with this please contact [email protected]

In terms of the position of whistle boards, TfL does not hold this information as we do not keep a record of their location. However, note that a Train Operator could be required to use their whistle anywhere on the system at any time for various operational reasons - for example, to warn somebody who is on the tracks. Whistle boards themselves are only to be observed between 07:00 and 19:00.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,

David Wells
