Our ref: FOI-1398-2223/GH Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 September 2022 asking for information about Santander Cycles. Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. Our financial reporting runs in 28 day periods. Therefore for the purpose of this request, data covers 22 August 2021 – 20August 2022. At the point of collation data for 21 August – 17 September 2022 was not available. Between 22 August 2021 and 20 August 2022, there were 30,463 Late Return Charges to the value of £2,866,768, and 9,884 Non-Return Charges to the value of £2,035,605 were applied. Of these 14,684 Late Return Charges to the value of £1,377,580, and 1,350 Non-Return Charges to the value of £277,546 were refunded on appeal. Not all payment attempts are successful, with success rates varying. This means the actual total amount customers have paid for these charges is likely to be much lower than the figures stated above. If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
