Location and information regarding Speed Detection Cameras in the London Borough of Ealing

1. Please advise the locations of all fixed traffic speed detection cameras in the London Borough of Ealing.
2. With regard to the traffic speed detection camera located on the A4020 Uxbridge Road nr Windmill Lane W/B UB2 (6561) please advise
a. The date from which it was reset to detect traffic travelling above the new (lower) speed limit of 20mph at this location.
b. The number of Notices of Intended Prosecutions (NIPs) issued to date regarding this camera since the speed limit on this stretch of road was reduced to 20mph.
c. The number of NIPs issued at each detected speed. e.g. 123 at 24mph, 101 at 25mph …
d. The number of NIPs successfully challenged and/or withdrawn or otherwise not proceeded with, together with the reasons why.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 31st July 2024 asking for information about speed detection cameras in the London Borough of Ealing. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and our information access policy.
I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below:
Question 1. Please advise the locations of all fixed traffic speed detection cameras in the London Borough of Ealing.
Answer: I am afraid that the information is excepted from disclosure under regulations 12(5)(a), 12(5)(b) and 12(5)(e) of the EIR. The rationale for this is as agreed by the Information Commissioner in a similar, recent case, as outlined in the following Decision Notice:
Question 2. With regard to the traffic speed detection camera located on the A4020 Uxbridge Road nr Windmill Lane W/B UB2 (6561) please advise
The date from which it was reset to detect traffic travelling above the new (lower) speed limit of 20mph at this location.
Answer: The speed limit on this road was changed to 20mph on 21/09/22 and the camera would have been re-calibrated on or soon after this date.
Question b. The number of Notices of Intended Prosecutions (NIPs) issued to date regarding this camera since the speed limit on this stretch of road was reduced to 20mph.
And;
Question c. The number of NIPs issued at each detected speed. e.g. 123 at 24mph, 101 at 25mph.
And;
Question d. The number of NIPs successfully challenged and/or withdrawn or otherwise not proceeded with, together with the reasons why.
Answer: TfL does not hold the requested information. The police, rather than TfL, are responsible for enforcing speed limits and it is the police that issue Notices of Intended Prosecution. You may therefore wish to redirect these questions to the Metropolitan Police, which can be done via its website here:
