Please can you tell me the reason Waterloo Underground went into evacuation mode on the 23rd September 2021?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 1st October 2021 asking for information about the evacuation of Waterloo station on 23rd September 2021.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. 

Specifically you asked:

“Please can you tell me the reason Waterloo Underground went into evacuation mode on the 23rd September 2021?”

I can confirm that we hold the information you require. The evacuation was due to food burning in the staff messroom that triggered the smoke detection sensors.
