Our Ref:         FOI-1389-2122

Thank you for your request received on 30 September 2021 asking for information about the surveys being carried out regarding river crossings in South East London.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

•           Could you please provide the script for the phone survey of businesses that TfL is currently conducting regarding river crossings in SE London, and the need for the Silvertown Tunnel.

Please find a copy of the survey script attached.

•           Could you also provide the full cost of conducting this survey, and the number of businesses that the survey intends to contact?

To clarify, the business surveys are being carried out on behalf of TfL as part of further monitoring of the socio-economic impacts of the Silvertown Tunnel scheme. This will allow us to understand and report the benefits and impacts of the scheme, and make adjustments if needed to deliver the right outcomes for London. Further information on the approach to socio-economic monitoring can be found in the 27 May 2021 Silvertown Tunnel Implementation Group presentation, which is available on our website:

https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/improvements-and-projects/silvertown-tunnel-implementation-group#on-this-page-1

In summary, business surveys will be undertaken three years pre-opening and three years post scheme opening. This year there will be 300 business surveys and four focus groups with businesses. In future years there will be 500 business surveys.

The total budget for monitoring the socio-economic impacts of the Silvertown Tunnel scheme is currently £808,543. This includes but is not limited to the cost of conducting this business survey and any subsequent analysis and reporting.
