Our ref: FOI-1388-2021/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 20 October 2020 asking for information about Congestion Charging.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:
1. Total revenue received from the congestion charge since the new £15 rate has come into effect. i.e. from the date of the change until today’s date
2. How this period compares in terms of revenue vs the same period when the previous lower rate was in effect. i.e. this period last year
We report income on a periodic basis. The temporary Congestion Charge changes took effect on 22 June, and the first full period of new charges, period 4, began on the 28 June 2020. The latest period reported, period 7, ended on the 17 October 2020. The income generated in this period and for the comparative period last year is as below:
28/6/20 to 17/10/20 (P4-P7) 23/6/19 to 12/10/19 (P4-P7)
£m £m
CC Charges 82.0 51.4
CC Enforcement 32.1 17.5
Total 114.1 69.0
3. When will there be a review as to whether the rate can return to previous amount and timeframes of enforcement
The changes are currently under review and if TfL considers there is a need for the proposed changes to become permanent outside of the scope of the response to the coronavirus pandemic then a separate and full consultation will be undertaken before any decision is made.
4. How many vehicles on average are paying the congestion charge per week in the last 3 months.
From week ending 5 July to week ending 18 October an average of 195,779 different vehicles have had the charge purchased for them per week.
