At the present time we are counting pennies - under FOI request could you please give me budget estimate for installing ULEZ to greater London and running cost.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7th September 2022 asking for information about the cost of extending the ULEZ scheme to Greater London.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“Please give me budget estimate for installing ULEZ to greater London and running cost”.
I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
TfL is still working on detailed financial projections for the proposed expansion of the ULEZ scheme to outer London in August 2023. Current assumptions on the estimated costs to expand the scheme are in the region of c£185m. This would include the cost of signage, detection and enforcement infrastructure and systems, marketing, project overheads and risk. It would also depend on the levels of vehicle compliance. However, note that we also expect to generate an additional net operating surplus of c£200m with a range of +/- c.50 per cent, in the first full year of operation.
The expansion of the ULEZ is not about making money, but about improving air quality and the health of Londoners. Any money received from the ULEZ will be reinvested into achieving the aims of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy.
