Our ref: FOI-1385-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13 October 2020 asking for information about Congestion Charge signage.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.

It appears the sign in question is the 8 mile advance sign on Watford Way (Barnet By-Pass) on the A1. This sign was updated on 17 June 2020 and checked by our officer on 20 June 2020 so it appears the updated patch fell off after this date. Please see attached photo of the sign after the update was installed. We have alerted the relevant team to ensure the sign is rectified.

When vehicles are captured entering or leaving the zone we do not know the direction or route the vehicle has taken and so we do not hold information on PCNs issued from vehicles entering the zone from the A1 direction.

Thousands of traffic signs have been installed on the main radial approach roads, around the zone boundary, and within the zone itself showing the operational hours in order to ensure that motorists are aware when they are in the charging zone. Every entry and exit point in the zone is clearly signed. Signs are placed in advance of the zone boundary to alert motorists and give them the opportunity not to enter the zone.

I can confirm that this PCN has been cancelled.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
