Dear Transport for London, Under the Freedom Of Information Act i am requesting details about your policy of Transport For London on the acceptance of different types and denominations of coins and banknotes please. Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 24th July 2023 asking for information about TfL’s policy on the acceptance of various different coins and banknotes.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. 

I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.

The answers to questions 1-10 are provided in the attached folder. That said, please note the following:
 
  • TfL does not hold the information in respect of the Docklands Light Railway, which is a contracted service operated by KeolisAmey Docklands Limited. However, we do know that the machines will accept all Bank of England notes, excluding £50 notes, and that 1p, 2p and 5p coin acceptance is disabled;
 
  • there are no TVMs at Cable Car stations;

In respect of Question 11, TfL does not hold any “documents (such as any internal staff guides and documents) regarding your policy on accepting various coins and banknotes”.
