Road Traffic Accidents Putney Bridge Road

Request ID: FOI-1313-1819

You asked

Dear TFL, I initially requested the information from Wandsworth Council, however the Council ahs directed me to TFL (after nearly 3 months of chasing this matter). Having seen and photographed a car rolled over on its roof (5 May 2018) on what is supposed to be “30mph” road, I have been moved to write to the TFL expressing my concern regarding the speed at which vehicles travel on Putney Bridge Road. This accident was within a few yards of the Hurlingham Preparatory School and from Wandsworth Park where children and families gather. Approximately two years ago I also witnessed a collision with the railings immediately outside Hurlingham Preparatory School. On numerous occasions I have personally avoided drivers travelling on Putney Bridge Road (approaching from the Wandsworth Park towards the High Street) at such speed that they have completely failed to see the pedestrian crossing at the base of Oxford Street. I am concerned of the very real possibility of a fatality if appropriate action is not undertaken. I am of the view further road traffic calming measures are required including a speed reduction, humps and speed cameras. The rolled car on 5 May 2018 also damaged a BT box (I also photographed this); it is also the second time in the the last 12 months the same BT box which hosts the areas telecoms networks has been damaged - the last incident caused serious telecoms outages. At the very least I suggest a temporary police radar to monitor speeds on this road. I wrote in support of a 20mph zone consultation only to discover that it was limited to the roads apart from Putney Bridge Road, which is the one which some people treat like a motorway. In light of the above, and in order for me to take this matter up with my local MP, please supply under the freedom of information Act the following information: Total number of Road Traffic Accidents/collisions reported within the last 3.5 years (2015, 2016, 2017, and year to date 2018) on Putney Bridge Road, detailing a) Date of accident for each incident b) Location for each incident c) Noted injuries and vehicle damage for each incident d) Any other relevant information. Many thanks,

Our Ref: FOI-1313-1819

Thank you for request received on 11 August 2018 asking for information about Road Traffic Accidents Putney Bridge Road.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require.

The information you asked for is available on our website using the following link:

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/safety-and-security/road-safety

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/safety-and-security/road-safety/london-collision-map

In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.

At present the latest finalised data available via the London Collision Map is up to 31 December 2016. The Metropolitan Police (MPS) introduced a new system for recording collision in November 2016. The new IT system and self-reporting tool for reporting collisions and injuries has provided TfL with more in-depth data to check and analyse, which we are still working with the MPS to try and resolve. This has led to a delay in processing data for 2017. We hope to complete processing of the 2017 data by September 2018; and the data available in the London Collision Map as well as the website will be updated from that period onwards.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please feel free to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
