TfL Ref: FOI-1253-2223

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19th August 2022 asking for information about cross over points.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Please could you kindly provide me with all the location of points where your tracks crossover allowing stock to move from on line to another. For example at Neasden the Jubilee Line can Cross over onto the Metropolitan track. Jubilee line tracks  cross onto the Bakerloo line at Baker street.”

I can confirm that we hold the information you require. However, I am afraid that it is not possible to source the definitive information to respond within the costs limit for responding to cases, as set out under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act. Under section 12, TfL is not obliged to provide information if it would cost more than £450 to determine if information is held, and to then locate, retrieve or extract that information from elsewhere. In this case the exemption applies because the information has not been collated before and there is no particularly quick of efficient way of doing so. Rather, we would need to review maps of the entire network and note each such instance, which could only be achieved at disproportionate cost for all 11 lines. However, that said, I can provide you with the following information, which has been collated by operational colleagues in London Underground from their own knowledge and understanding of the network (and note, therefore, that this may not be an exhaustive list):

  • Bakerloo – Baker St to Jubilee, Queens Park to North Western Railway (NWR), and using NWR Track can run up to Watford
  • Circle / Hammersmith & City – Many places link with District and Metropolitan.
  • Central – No direct link to other lines. Ruislip Depot used to Link with Piccadilly, Metropolitan and also via Depot to NWR. Epping has a link to Ongar which is now a Heritage Railway
  • District – Many places link with C/H&C and Metropolitan, and also Piccadilly out to the west and NWR at East Putney, Wimbledon Park (to SWT Depot) and Wimbledon Link to Platforms 5 and 6. There is also an Engineering Train Link between NWR and LU at Barking. LU Have running rights on the Richmond Branch from Gunnersbury to Richmond.
  • Jubilee – Baker St to Bakerloo Line and various places to the Metropolitan but Signalling system are not directly compatible.
  • Met – Various places to the Jubilee but Signalling system are not directly compatible. NWR at Harrow on the Hill and Amersham. Piccadilly Line at Rayners Lane
  • Northern – to Piccadilly at Kings Cross
  • Piccadilly – Finsbury Park to Victoria Line, Northern at Kings Cross, Piccadilly out to the west. Metropolitan Line at Rayners Lane
  • Victoria – Finsbury Park to Piccadilly Line
  • Waterloo & City – No connections to other lines

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
