Provision for Platform Edge Doors at Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station

You asked
Hello
I'd like to ask what provisions, if any, have been made during the design and construction of the Northern Line extension for eventually installing platform screen doors at Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station stations.
Additionally, what would the cost of installing these be, and what consideration was given to opening the NLE with screen doors already fitted.
Thank You

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19 July 2023 asking for information about the provision for Platform Edge Doors at Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
The decision to implement Platform Edge Doors (PEDs) on London Underground lines would usually be made as part of a strategic review of a line. Introducing PEDs requires complex system integration between doors, trains and signalling to ensure their successful operation and reliability. Therefore it is not considered efficient to introduce them at one or two stations on a line in isolation. Should a decision be made to introduce PEDs in future then the Northern Line Extension (NLE) station platforms at Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station would be able to accommodate their introduction. Passive provision was made in the station designs for PEDs on the NLE, including the platform structural requirements to accommodate increased load bearing and the platforms are straight in alignment, which means gap fillers between the train and platform wouldn’t be required. TfL doesn’t have a precise figure, but based on previous installation on the Jubilee and Elizabeth lines and other metros worldwide, the cost estimate is thought to be around £2-2.5 million (2022 prices) per platform including the systems integration required between trains, signalling and PEDs. There would also be increased costs for future operation and maintenance of the PEDs.
