FOI request detail

SuperLoop: regulating service

Request ID: FOI-1239-2425
Date published: 06 August 2024

You asked

1. Can a table be provided with column: a) list of all SuperLoop routes; b) the number of times that a bus on that route has been stationary at a bus stop for at least 3 minutes; c) number of times a bus on that route has been stationary at a bus stop for more than 5 minutes. (To note a bus held for 6 minutes should be accounted for in both columns); d) number of complaints regarding bus being held at a bus stop e.g. regulation, driver change or any other reason, for that route. 2. What is the average bus speed of route 34 and SL1 between the following shared bus stops in Mon - Fri Peak AM? 1. From Walthamstow Bus Station to Angel Corner/Silver Street Station. 2. From Angel Corner/Silver Street Station to Green Lanes. 3. From Green Lanes to Arnos Grove Station. 4. From Arnos Grove Station to Barnet Church (for 34) and to North Finchley (for SL1). 3. Can the same data be provided for "all times of the week" for each of the above in part(2)?    4) SL1 would be quicker if it used Silver Street (used by 34) towards North Finchley instead of the Cambrige Roundabout underpass or slip road in the morning peak (particularly between 7:30 - 9am). Why does it not do so and are their plans to speed up SL1 between this section in other ways? Can all data in this request for (1), (2) ad (3) be from April to June 2024 (or any similar timeframe for which data is available).

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1239-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 17th July 2024 asking for information about Superloop buses.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

  1. Can a table be provided with column:
a) list of all SuperLoop routes;
b) the number of times that a bus on that route has been stationary at a bus stop for at least 3 minutes;
c) number of times a bus on that route has been stationary at a bus stop for more than 5 minutes. (To note a bus held for 6 minutes should be accounted for in both columns);
d) number of complaints regarding bus being held at a bus stop e.g. regulation, driver change or any other reason, for that route.

I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Your questions are answered in turn below:

Question 1a: SL1, SL2, SL3, SL5, SL6, SL7, SL8, SL9, SL10.

Question 1b: Please see the attached Stop Dwell Time Summary spreadsheet

Question 1c: Please see the attached Stop Dwell Time Summary spreadsheet.

Question 1d: Seven such complaints overall. One about SL1 (April 2024); one about SL10 (April 2024); one about SL3 (April 2024); two about SL9 (May and June 2024); two about SL2 (both June 2024).

Question 2 and Question 3: This information has not been collated before and there is no automated or efficient way of doing so. Rather, to calculate these speeds, we would have to manually extract data from our iBus system and then carry out the required calculations. This is not possible within the costs limit for responding to FOI cases, as set out under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act. Under section 12, TfL is not obliged to provide information if it would cost more than £450 to determine if the information is held, and to then locate, retrieve of extract it from elsewhere. That provision applies in this instance. However, that said, we can provide the attached average bus speeds data for each SL route (peak data is AM, 7:00 to 10:00). You may need to expand the width of some columns to read the data in full.

Question 4: All new Superloop routes are being monitored including performance and potential bus priority interventions.
