Owing to the recent closure of the Direct Enquiries website, can you provide an up-to-date list of all the staircases within stations, along with their location within a station (e.g. Exit 1/Extrance 1, stairs to platform level, etc.) please? I recently checked this file (https://data.london.gov.uk/dataset/eb862901-f429-4efd-92e6-e919e74d3b01) titled ‘Information on Multi Stairs Within Stations’ but the information is slightly out-of-date & doesn’t say where within the station the stairs apply to.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 25 July 2019 asking for information about staircases within stations.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

Unfortunately we do not hold the updated list that you have requested, as an update to this spreadsheet has not been collated. Whilst this information is available at a local level (i.e. at the individual stations), retrieving and collating the information to provide to you would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 set by the Freedom of Information (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.

Under section 12 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to comply with requests if we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the appropriate limit. In this instance, we estimate that the time required to answer your request would exceed 18 hours which, at £25 per hour (the rate stipulated by the Regulations), exceeds the ‘appropriate limit’.
