In early 2015, Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London at the time, announced plans to bring Greenwich Power Station back to full use. It was said that 6 new turbine engines would be installed over the course of 20 years, with the first two to be up and running by 2017.
Please can you confirm:
- how many engines are currently in use
- how often the current engines are used
- the plans for the future of the power station
- how many further new engines are likely to be installed and when
- if and when the station is likely to be fully operational once more

I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below:
Question 1: how many engines are currently in use?
Answer: 7
Question 2: how often the current engines are used?
Answer: An average of 1 engine run for a 2 hour period once a week.
Question 3: the plans for the future of the power station?
Answer: To continue with its current role in providing the emergency back-up supply for London Underground.
Question 4: how many further new engines are likely to be installed and when?
Answer: None currently.
Question 5: if and when the station is likely to be fully operational once more?
Answer: The station is fully operational.
