TfL Ref: FOI-1223-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7th September 2021 asking for information about London Underground Customer Service Assistants.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below:

Question 1. The current number of Customer Service Assistants (CSA) Level 2 who hold a 'Station Operations' licence; i.e the licence which must be held by a substantive CSA Level 1.

Answer: It is mandatory that all CSA level 2 roles - before they start the role - hold a 'Station Operations' licence. All current CSAs level 2 hold this licence. The current Full Time Equivalent (FTE) headcount for this role is 466.6.

Question 2. The specific amount of Higher Grade Working Pay for a CSA Level 2 who is acting up as a CSA Level 1 for their duty.
Answer: According to our records there are no current CSA level 2s who are acting up on CSA Level 1 duty. However, in such a scenario there is no immediate lift in salary as they remain a "CSA” until they gain a promotion place to CSA1. At that point they pick up the salary for the grade and are paid the same as every other CSA1. After they have completed conversion training they can then carry out HGW as a CSA1 and this is paid on a per shift basis normally. At that point they become eligible to nominate CSA1 locations. Generally none of this happens until they have completed probation.
Question 3. The number of CSAs Level 2 who were promoted to CSAs Level 1 in the last 12 months

Answer: Within the last 12 months there have been 246 promotions from CSA Level 2 to CSA level 1.
