London Overground
Request ID: FOI-1219-1718
Date published: 09 November 2017
You asked
Thank you for your FoI response about London Overground.
However, there does not appear to be much in the way of detail in it about (i) 'safety procedure and despatch of Overground trains from platforms' in general, or (ii) the '4 mph when departing' in particular.
Regarding the latter, it is not clear who set the '4 mph' figure, or how. What is different about the platform train interface, at 3 mph, and at 5 mph?
Increasing the number of goods trains eventually must conflict with increasing the numbers of Overground trains, so I would like to request any information held about this tradeoff by TfL.

As cited in my previous response, the Bombardier Class 378 trains come to us manufactured with the monitors turning off once 4 mph is reached so any detail about safety procedures will need to be requested from the manufacturer.
We are not aware of any particular issue from our perspective regarding conflict freight and passenger trains in relation to timetabling, therefore you will need to contact National Rail at: [email protected]
I apologise for not being able to be of more help.
