FOI request detail

axonometric drawings of every single station on the London Transport network

Request ID: FOI-1216-1718
Date published: 18 September 2017

You asked

I would like complete axonometric drawings of every single station on the London Transport network. Specifically, this is every currently operating station on every single currently operating tube line (excluding DLR and London Overground). Moreover, on a previous request made by another user under reference FOI-0368-1516, the "note" on every plan states that "for specific areas refer to the relevant sheets of the plan" however these "relevant sheets" are not provided. Please can these be provided, and if these cannot be provided due to potential safety and security risks, I will be provided with a specific justification as to why the exact sections of the plans have been omitted. Furthermore, I would like documents showing the track distance and time between each station on each line on the tube network, as well as working timetables for each tube line. Finally, I would like a list of the walking distance between platforms at every station and also a separate list of every station accompanied with its corresponding entry/exit/changeover carriage. For example, if at Canons Park Station the nearest exit on the Northbound platform was at the 2nd Carriage from the front, please provide "Canons Park N 2" and so on for every tube line at every station on the Network.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 20 August 2017 asking for various information about London Underground.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.

Axonometric Drawings are only available for “Section 12” stations. They do not exist for above ground stations or disused stations. Each station that has an axonometric generally only has one as an overview although some complex stations do have more than one. The other drawings you refer to are more conventional plans showing information that is of a security or commercial sensitivity hence not publically issued. It would exceed the cost limit for dealing with Freedom of Information requests for us to identify which station plans had additional information and then to provide you with an explanation of why each one is exempt from disclosure.

Drawings for the ‘section 12’ stations are already in the public domain, for example here:

https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2015/07/12/3d-maps-of-every-underground-station-ab/

Working timetables are published on our website here:

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/working-timetables

Distances and times are all within the Working Timetables.

Walking distances between platforms at every station can be calculated using our Journey Planner  - https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/

The ‘separate list of every station accompanied with its corresponding entry/exit/changeover carriage’ that you have also requested is not information which we hold in this format. Such information is available from Apps such as ‘Tube exits’ – or you can compile your own list by visiting each station.

Please note that under section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act we are not obliged to provide you with information which is reasonably accessible by other means.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
