You asked

How much money does TFL make on every single vehicle ULEZ test (older vehicles) and how much does TFL charge for the licence to do so?

We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-1211-2324

Thank you for your request received on 16 July 2023 asking for information about Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) exemption testing.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

The only vehicle emissions testing that TfL recognises to demonstrate compliance with the ULEZ is for motorcycles. The testing is carried out by TfL approved independent test centres. The option to test is offered to help motorcycle owners to comply with the ULEZ since a lack of official emissions data for this class of vehicle was identified. TfL does not collect any fees or revenue from the testing.

Owners can check whether their vehicles meet emission standards on our website:

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
