Request ID: FOI-1186-2425 Date published: 31 July 2024
You asked
Hello TFL
According to Appendix E – Code Frame of the Consultation Report for the Silvertown Tunnel, Cross River Cycling Service:
https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/silvertown-cycling-service/widgets/71769/documents
Some of the responses are unclear; they are:
Other comments - 2 responses
Out of scope unrelated to proposals - 37 responses
Out of scope comments on bus vehicle type - 20 responses
My questions are as follows:
Can you provide further context about these responses?
Which bus vehicle type did the respondents comment on or suggest during the consultation?
Which bus vehicle type does TFL plan to use for the Cross River Cycling Service?
Will the buses for the Cross River Cycling Service have their own livery separate from the rest of the red bus network?
Will the service be tendered to a private bus operating company or provided by a new publicly owned bus operating company?
Regards

TfL Ref: FOI-1186-2425 Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 11th July 2024 asking for information about the Silvertown Tunnel cross river cycling service. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below: “According to Appendix E – Code Frame of the Consultation Report for the Silvertown Tunnel, Cross River Cycling Service: https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/silvertown-cycling-service/widgets/71769/documents Some of the responses are unclear; they are: Other comments - 2 responses Out of scope unrelated to proposals - 37 responses Out of scope comments on bus vehicle type - 20 responses My questions are as follows: Question 1: Can you provide further context about these responses? Answer: Chapter 2.10 of our Consultation Report (see here) explains that our analysis of the responses to the consultation involved thematically arranging the issues we identified in respondents written comments into a ‘code frame’, which could then be considered and responded to. We have provided further context about the three ‘codes’ identified as follows:
Other comments – 2 responses. These responses provided views about the operation of a cross-river service for cyclists that could not be accommodated within the code frame we developed because they were unique in their content. The verbatim comments were considered in the same way as every other issue we identified in our analysis
Out of scope unrelated to proposals – 37 responses. These responses provided views on a large range of topics which we determined were not connected to the provision of a cross-river service for cyclists through the Silvertown tunnel
Out of scope comments on bus vehicle type – 20 responses. These responses suggested that the service be operated with the ‘New Routemaster’ bus, or with a ‘tram-bus’.
Question 2: Which bus vehicle type did the respondents comment on or suggest during the consultation? Answer: As above - the responses suggested that the service be operated with the ‘New Routemaster’ bus, or with a ‘tram-bus’. Question 3: Which bus vehicle type does TFL plan to use for the Cross River Cycling Service? Answer: This has not yet been determined. We are still in the planning stage and therefore not able to confirm bus type at present Question 4: Will the buses for the Cross River Cycling Service have their own livery separate from the rest of the red bus network? Answer: As above, this has not yet been determined. We are investigating potential livery options. Question 5: Will the service be tendered to a private bus operating company or provided by a new publicly owned bus operating company? Answer: As above - we are still in the planning stage and therefore have not yet determined the delivery provider.
