Request ID: FOI-1182-2425 Date published: 07 August 2024
You asked
I have some questions regarding the air conditioning specification on TFL’s new electric buses (Single and double-decker).
1. Do new single-decker electric buses use air conditioning (using typical refrigeration and humidity/air extraction) and/or air cooling systems (without humidity extraction)?
2. What is the target saloon temperature of new single-decker electric buses?
2a. If there is no set target temperature, what is the target saloon temperature at the following external ambient temperatures?
1. -10ºc
2. 10ºc
3. 15ºc
4. 20ºc
5. 25ºc
6. 30ºc
7. 35ºc
8. 40ºc
3. Do the new double-decker electric buses use air conditioning (using typical refrigeration and humidity/air extraction) and/or air cooling systems (without humidity extraction)?
4. What is the target saloon temperature of new double-decker electric buses?
4a. If there is no set target temperature, what is the target saloon temperature at the following external ambient temperatures?
1. -10ºc
2. 10ºc
3. 15ºc
4. 20ºc
5. 25ºc
6. 30ºc
7. 35ºc
5. Is there a maximum relative humidity for London’s new electric buses?

5. Is there a maximum relative humidity for London’s new electric buses?
Response
1.Yes - we use air conditioning with humidity extracting function.
2. The temperature on all buses both single and double decker is set at 15 degrees for energy consumption reasons. We have a programme to improve passenger thermal comfort on future vehicles. 2a. N/A
