FOI request detail

Process after activating a passenger alarm on the DLR

Request ID: FOI-1166-2324
Date published: 04 August 2023

You asked

Dear Docklands Light Railway Limited, Onboard Passenger service agents are mobile onboard the train, often in a completely different, adjoining unit. If a passenger was to trigger the Passenger alarm, located in one of the disabled areas, how would a member of staff onboard be alerted that said alarm had been activated?

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1166-2324

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 July 2023 asking for information about passenger alarms on the DLR.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Every DLR train has a Passenger Service Agent (PSA) on board when it is in service. When an alarm is activated on board the train, it sends an alarm both to the DLR Control Centre as well as sounding an audible alarm on the train which the PSA can hear regardless of which vehicle they are in and from which vehicle the alarm was pressed. The alarm can be responded to by either/both the Control Centre and the PSA (from several places within the train) as appropriate.

If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
