Research into "New Terrorism and Countermeasures"
Request ID: FOI-1150-1718
Date published: 30 August 2017
You asked
I am a member of the SII (Security Institute of Ireland) and I am currently partaking in a "New Terrorism and Countermeasures" Fetac level 6 course in a private capacity although it is related to my employment as a security door and turnstile manufacturer.
I am to analyse a terrorism attack in Western Europe and I have chosen London 7/7/2005 as my subject matter.
Part of my investigation is to analyse, in this instance, how London Bus and Underground, as a private organisation, reacted, managed and dealt with the bombing of the three Underground trains and the London Bus. Although I can find some information online about how the public and civic services reacted I cannot find any information from within your organisation.
Can you help?
If at all possible, could I get a copy of any security risk analyses prior to and following the 7/7/2005 incident? Or any policies relating to the same, such as perceived threats analyses or risk assessments would help.
Modern day policies would not be relevant to this investigation as I am sure they have been updated a lot since this incident but they would be of interest if possible.
I understand completely if you do not want to share this information, if it is sensitive, but I can assure you that anything you share with me will be kept in the strictest confidence.
Also, regardless of how you might help, I can share my final project with you if you are interested.

We provided information to a number of bodies who reviewed the incident and contributed fully to the inquest process. Below are some links to public documents that give detail in terms of London Underground’s actions – the inquest in particular would have gone into detail and contains records of detailed transcripts:

You are welcome to visit and consult the open material in our search room. If you would like to see anything listed as closed then you would need to let the Archive team know which files are of interest so we can request them back from storage and identify whether any of it can be disclosed.
