Thank you for your request received by us on 18 September 2020 asking for information about a traffic diversion.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

details about a bus breaking down and the subsequent provision of a diversion route for affected drivers.

On 07/03/20 at approx 10.30pm I witnessed a single decker bus which had broken down in the middle of the junction off Pentonville Road and Islington High Street (nearest the old Angel Station). As a result of this bus breaking down a diversion route was created for drivers. I require information about this bus breaking down and information about the subsequent diversion route and who placed the diversion signs.

Attached is a copy of a screenshot (please enlarge the image by using the + sign on the toolbar), relating to a road traffic collision at 21:37 in the Islington area on 7 March 2020, which affected various bus routes recorded as follows:

Please note that the diversion listed above would be broadcast via radio to all affected bus routes, however, these will only relate to bus routes, not general traffic. I can advise that we never suggest diversions to members of the public for unplanned incidents on the Transport for London Road Network, instead we try our best to give drivers information they need to make their own decisions accordingly. Furthermore, we only occasionally suggest diversions for major planned engineering works for example.
