I would be grateful if you could provide the following information: 1. The total number of items from your collection that have been reported as stolen from 2019 to date (end of June 2024). 2. The total number of items from the collection that have been lost or damaged while in transit (e.g. during loans to other institutions or transport between museums/galleries) from 2019 to date (end of June 2024). 3. For each item reported as stolen, lost, or damaged: a. A brief description of the item b. The estimated value of the item at the time of the incident For each of the above, please provide a yearly breakdown if possible.

Thank you for your request received on 5 July 2024 asking for information about London Transport Museum items that were stolen, lost, or damaged in transit.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. You asked for:

1.         The total number of items from your collection that have been reported as stolen from 2019 to date (end of June 2024)

No items from our collection have been reported as stolen from 2019 to date (June 2024).

2.         The total number of items from the collection that have been lost or damaged while in transit (e.g. during loans to other institutions or transport between museums/galleries) from 2019 to date (end of June 2024)

One item from our collection – a 1938 Tube train, has been damaged while awaiting to be used for a heritage event from 2019 to date (June 2024). The item was subsequently restored by the museum.

3.         For each item reported as stolen, lost, or damaged:
a.         A brief description of the item

The item damaged was object number 1991/211 - Railway vehicle; London Underground 1938 Tube stock non-driving motor car No. 12048, 1939.

b.         The estimated value of the item at the time of the incident

The estimated value of the item at the time of the incident was £375,000 (insurance value).
